Pause with Jesus – Week Two

Week Two – Seek

Psalm 63:1 says, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”

I am a water girl, I love my water more than any other drink. However, sometimes I get so busy with what I am doing, I forget to have a drink of water and then suddenly I realize I am parched. You know that kind of thirsty where you feel like you can’t go on with any other activity until you get a drink? Yep, that kind of parched. The thirst I feel is deep within me and all I can think about is how thirsty I am and how in need of water I am. When I finally get a drink of water I can drink a full glass of water due to the degree of my thirstiness.

Now imagine you have gone for more than a few hours without water. What would be our outcome if this was to happen? We are told our body is made up of 60% water. If we were to be deprived of no water we could only survive for 2 days to a week, depending on our health, weather conditions, and our physical activity.

In John 4 Jesus encounters the Samaritan woman at the well and in His conversation with her, He refers to Himself as the living water. When we drink of the living water we are satisfied, filled deep within our souls. The truth is, our body NEEDS to consume a certain amount of water on a daily basis in order for us to function properly. Let’s look at this need our body has from a spiritual perspective. When we deprive our soul of water, what are the outcomes we will expect? Do we believe we an survive for days, weeks or months without spending time with Jesus and reading God’s Word?

Today, our focus is on taking God’s Word in as the living water we desperately need. When we go without the Word, we are depriving our soul’s of the nourishment, the living water, it so desperately needs.

The question I have for you today is this, what are you trying to use to quench your thirst? What activities, thoughts, or things are you turning to in your time of need and thirst that is outside of Jesus?

Are you in a season where you feel like a dry and weary land?

Who and what are you turning to in your time of thirst?

Call to Action: This week meditate on Psalm 63 – turn the words of this Psalm into a prayer and write in your journal.

Would love to hear from each of you as well. Be sure to comment below what the Holy Spirit is whispering to your heart this week.
